Organization is the key to doing well in school, and it all starts with developing a good system for keeping track of homework and test and project dates. If you have a younger child, consider a simple homework notebook, while a student planner or smartphone planner app might work best for your middle or high schooler. Remind your child about good time management practices. Please note Again pullover is also a noun which is a style of jumper worn by males or females. And gain as a noun it is one word only. TO SLEEP OVERTo stay or spend a night in a friend’s house. This phrasal verb is usually used by young children who like to spend time with their friends. One child invites the other to come to his home and have a sleepover  (here it is a noun, one word).Example: Would you like to sleep over  in my house tonight? Mum is making popcorn and said we can watch a movie.TO RUN OVERThis has two meanings as a phrasal verb so could be replaced by  to kill  (run over an animal, for example)  or to review  (run over some numbers or a presentation).Example: When someone is driving along the street and a dog or cat runs out on to the road they might unintentionally (not deliberately) run over and kill the animal. 5 Tips for Overcoming Procrastination It is often challenging in today's society dealing with the constant distractions that surround us.We are faced with the use of smartphones, tablets, television, computers, and other electronics. It can be difficult to focus your attention on your studies because a majority of your assignments may need the Internet for research purposes. So, how do you avoid these constant distractions when they have been integrated into our lives? As a student-athlete in college, I had to learn to avoid these distractions and discipline myself to meet deadlines for school. I have learned over the years and would like to share 5 helpful tips for overcoming procrastination. 1. Make a To-Do List I constantly make To-Do Lists to this day and quite honestly, they are very helpful. I am a visual learner and I know that if I see it on paper then I will be able to act on it. Use a notepad/sticky note to create a To-Do List and prioritize what needs to be completed before the other. It can be a simple numbered list and will take less than 1 minute to complete! 2. Give Yourself a Deadline/Goals In conjunction to the To-Do List, set some goals for yourself. I found it easier that if you set goals/deadlines for yourself, it will be easier and faster to complete the tasks. You fill more satisfaction knowing you are ahead of schedule or on track to meeting your deadline. 3. Study in a Quiet Area I was taught as a child to always study in a quiet area that is away from any distractions. Dedicate 2 hours to studying without watching television or going on Facebook. Trust me, you will finish a lot faster and will be able to enjoy your favorite television show after your work has been completed. 4. Listen to Classical Music If you can’t work in a quiet area, add some music to the scenario. I would suggest music without lyrics such as classical music. Personally, it makes it more difficult to listen to music with lyrics because then you start singing along. Before you know it you are dancing and singing instead of studying. 5. Start Early Discipline yourself to start studying and reviewing material early. If you do this, you will not have as much material to cram or study for before the test.

With higher education costs rising every year, many students simply cant afford to spend extra time in the university setting. In addition to tuition, students lose the opportunity to earn a living at a full-time job for every year they are a student. So, how can students graduate in four years? 1. Don’t be undecided for long Many college freshmen enter a university as ‘undecided’.  This is okay as long as they declare a major by the first day of their junior year. However, undecided students often dont know which general education credits to take to count towards their degree. This is why its really important to take a look at graduation requirements for potential majors and make sure that youre filling the underclassmen requirements. If you dont, youll have to go back and take that freshman course your junior year, which can leave you in the position of being a 5th year senior. Try to choose a major by the first day of sophomore year or, at least, narrow it down to two choices (READ: College Application Crunch Time). 2. See an academic advisor on day one For some reason many college students still decline to take advantage of the free and extremely helpful services of an academic advisor. They will be able to single-handedly walk you through the process of freshman year to graduation. They will tell you which classes count as filling course requirements, which courses can only be used as an elective, and which courses count towards your major. Attempting to navigate the never ending list of courses at a large university on your own will often lead to clerical errors and silly mistakes. Take the time to speak with an academic advisor once each semester and save yourself an extra year in college. 3. Change career plans wisely When students change their career plans they may also have to change their major field of study or take additional courses. A limited number of courses in your old major may be able to count as general education classes but you will probably still have to take more required units. Think about how important it is to graduate on time versus having a career you simply wont enjoy. One extra year in college may be entirely worth it to have 30 years in a career you like. However, students who do change their career plans are encouraged to seek the advice of an advisor ASAP. Summer school Summer School is a fabulous opportunity to pick up a few extra units. Although many required and specialized courses may not be offered over the summer, its a great opportunity to pick up general education credit or credits through an internship. Summer school classes often have a more relaxed setting and allow students to be in class two days a week and then work on alternate days. 5. Beware of prerequisites Many courses, either in general education or your major, may have two parts. It’s important to remember that each course isnt always offered every term. For example, Chemistry 1A is likely only offered in the fall and Chemistry 1B is likely only offered in the spring. If you dont sign up for the first course in the fall, youll have to wait until the next year to take it. This can substantially delay a number of students from graduating on time.
